How we keep things secure

  • Security testing

    The security of the CoInvestor web application has been subject to an independent and professional review.

  • GeoTrust

    CoInvestor uses one of the world's largest and most prominent firms for the provision of its SSL certificates, Geotrust. This provides the strongest encryption available whenever sensitive information is entered or displayed on the CoInvestor website.

  • Encryption

    From the moment any personal or account information leaves your computer to the time it enters CoInvestor's system all online access is encrypted. We employ some of the strongest forms of encryption commercially available for use on the Web today. During any transaction, our 128-bit encryption turns your information into a coded sequence with billions of possible variations, making it nearly impossible for unwanted intruders to decipher. Additionally, private information collected to verify your identity is stored in an encrypted fashion in our database. Look for a “closed lock” icon in your browser to confirm if encryption is being used on any Web page you are viewing. Any Web address beginning with “https://...” indicates the page you are viewing uses encryption. The “s” stands for “secured.”

  • Secure account set-up and login

    When you log on to create a CoInvestor account, we ask you to create a username, password, and provide answers to three security questions. This information is encrypted during transmission and will remain a secret as long as you do not disclose it. To securely log on to your account, you are asked to provide your username and password. You must then enter the answer to one of the security questions. Your account will be locked for a period of time if you enter incorrect details to mitigate 'brute force' hacking. If you suspect that someone has had access to your password or answer to security questions, please contact us immediately.

  • Firewall

    Our computer systems are protected 24 hours a day by state-of-the-art firewall technology that blocks unauthorized entry. In order to gain access to authorized information, the Web browser you are using must know the proper protocol, or language, and even then only select information is available.

  • 24-7 Security

    The servers hosting the CoInvestor website are monitored 24 hours per day. In addition the movements of any individuals at the data centre are monitored by proximity card readers, with infra-red intruder sensors and door contacts throughout to detect intruders. This ensures your data is safe and secure.

 

  • Who looks after your money

    CoInvestor does not hold your money directly at any time but have selected Woodside Corporate Services Limited (“WCSL”) as a Receiving Agent. WCSL are authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority with Financial Services Registration Number 467652 and have been acting in the capacity of Custodian, Nominee or Receiving Agent for EIS and other funds since 2008. WCSL continue to provide services to over 15 other financial services firms including a number of the EIS Fund Managers with whom CoInvestor works. WCSL are part of the Tricor Group and a Member of the Bank of East Asia Group. The Bank of East Asia is the largest independent local bank in Hong Kong with total consolidated assets in excess of $100 billion as at 31 December 2014 and is listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong.

  • Where your money is held

    When you 'add funds' to your CoInvestor account you will be instructed to transfer these funds direct to a client account, set up with trust status, in the name of WCSL where it will be held as cash. Funds may be held on overnight deposit or in a term deposit providing only that your funds are always available for investment as required by you at the time of your choosing. Pending your investment instructions your money will be held in a UK bank or UK branch of an international bank authorised by the Prudential Regulatory Authority.

    When instructed to do so by the Fund Manager for each investment that you commit to invest in, WCSL will deploy funds according to that instruction.

  • Fund Managers direction

    This instruction will be in accordance with the Investor Agreement that you will have signed with the Fund Manager at the time of making your investment commitment.

    When instructed to do so by CoInvestor, acting as your agent, WCSL will transfer funds back to you following your request to CoInvestor to ‘withdraw funds’.

  • Risk

    Please note - WCSL will act in good faith and with reasonable care and diligence in the performance of its functions. WCSL will not be liable to an Investor in the event of any loss in value of funds invested or any insolvency of any bank with which funds are deposited, nor in the event of any restriction on WCSL’s ability to withdraw funds from such bank for reasons reasonably beyond the control of WCSL.
